Melanie Sykes was seen wearing a headscarf during a dog walk on Monday, marking her first public appearance since disclosing her struggle with alopecia, a condition that has caused her to lose a significant portion of her hair. The 55-year-old television personality appeared in a low-key yet stylish manner, enjoying a beverage while wearing a patterned scarf, a white t-shirt, and casual trousers. She was observed doting on her Pembroke Welsh Corgi, appearing relaxed.

Earlier this year, Sykes revealed she is "learning to live with loss" as she navigates her ongoing battle with alopecia, having first publicly shared her diagnosis in April 2025. Sykes, who also manages a heart condition that causes palpitations, stated she is "counting her blessings." She explained that while the hair remaining around her crown is healthy, it represents nearly all that is left.

In a recent social media post, Sykes described her remaining hair as her "crown" and expressed her efforts to adapt to loss by focusing on gratitude, which she believes is a pathway to happiness and requires daily practice. She also shared a positive health update at the end of 2025, discussing her experience with "Post-Traumatic Growth." She told fans on Instagram that she was "vibrating high" after "transcending trauma" from the autoimmune condition that has left her "two-thirds bald" and experiencing widespread inflammation.

Post-Traumatic Growth, as defined by psychological principles, refers to the positive psychological changes that can occur in individuals following a life crisis or traumatic event. Sykes indicated that she is experiencing both Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and post-traumatic growth simultaneously. She emphasized the importance of self-care, processing grief, and moving forward, stating, "We can transcend all trauma, we can be changed, and I am living f******g proof of that!"

Sykes first shared details about her hair loss in April 2025, posting a photo of her side profile that highlighted a bald spot. At the time, she mentioned she was in London investigating health issues and stated, "I am experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to all that has happened over the last few months. PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice." She has also spoken about living with excessive inflammation throughout her body.

Last year, Sykes urged her followers not to worry about her health, asserting that she has learned to care for herself and is in a healing process. She expressed optimism, stating, "Life is so good, and I know it because I'm right here right now and there's nothing to fear." She advocated for focusing on personal well-being, including one's "spiritual garden, yourself, your body, your mind, your creative spirit."
