Melanie Sykes has shared an update on her alopecia journey, revealing she has lost "two thirds of her hair" and posting new selfies to Instagram. The 56-year-old presenter displayed her shaven head and makeup-free face in radiant images shared on Monday.
Sykes has spoken openly about her experience with the autoimmune condition, previously stating she is "learning to live with loss." In her latest post, she shared photos from different angles with the caption, "Unwritten Me... #selfportrait #muse #amuse #light #autoimmune."
She described the hair around her crown as what remains and noted its healthy state, despite experiencing cold and needing headwear. Sykes emphasized the importance of gratitude, calling it "the key to happiness and takes daily, moment-to-moment practice. Practice love."
Earlier, Sykes shared a positive health update for the end of 2025, discussing "Post-Traumatic Growth." She explained that she was "vibrating high" after "transcending trauma" amid her battle with alopecia and inflammation across her body. Sykes noted that Post-Traumatic Growth is a positive psychological change experienced after a life crisis, and that individuals can experience it alongside PTSD.
"Even the most difficult times do pass, they do, and I just want to use this term post traumatic growth, it's real, you can be suffering from PTSD but still at the same time be experiencing post traumatic growth," she said. "I'm in both camps because you can be both things at once, as long as I attend to myself and what makes me happy and feel grief about whatever has gone on and process it and move on from it."
Sykes added, "We can transcend all trauma, we can be changed, and I am living f
fucking proof of that!". She captioned the post, "Hello you beautiful people, sharing my high vibes today, Love always, Melanie x."
The presenter, known for her role in the Boddingtons Bitter beer advert in the mid-90s, first disclosed her hair loss in April 2025, showing a bald spot on her head. At the time, she revealed she was experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to "PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice."
Last year, Sykes urged fans not to worry about her health struggles, insisting she has "learnt to take care of myself" and is "healing." She stated that life is "so good" and that "there is nothing to fear." She believes that by tuning into faith and believing "all is well," things will only improve.
Sykes expressed a preference for not discussing her illness constantly, stating, "I'd just rather have a conversation about something else because I've got that down and I'm healing myself." She encouraged others to "attend to your own spiritual garden, yourself, your body, your mind, your creative spirit" rather than worrying about her, concluding, "Don't worry about me, I've got me, I've always got me, I've learned to really take care of myself in the last two years."
