Meghan McCain, 41, has publicly addressed negative online comments that labeled her as "old and ugly," asserting that she has no intention of using cosmetic enhancements such as Botox or weight loss medications like Ozempic.
During a July 22 episode of her podcast, "Citizen McCain," which she co-hosts with Miranda Wilkins, McCain explained that a recent clip from the show discussing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani gained traction in different online spaces, leading to unsolicited remarks about her appearance. She described herself as typically "Armadillo-skinned" but noted the recent influx of critical comments.
McCain shared photos illustrating her appearance over the years, with Wilkins remarking that McCain "still look[s] exactly the same." McCain countered, stating, "I am 41 years old... I'm going to age. I'm going to get older. I am fatter because I've had three kids." She also noted that her appearance differs due to no longer having professional hair and makeup applied daily, prioritizing her children's needs.
McCain and Wilkins confirmed their stance on cosmetic procedures and weight loss drugs. "We don't get Botox, we haven't had the thread facelift, we're not on Ozempic," Wilkins stated. McCain added, "It's tempting, but I'm not [on Ozempic]." She reiterated that she will continue to age naturally and does not intend to pursue facelifts or injectables.
"But I can promise you one thing, Miranda and I will continue keeping it very real with you, keeping you up to date and having very honest conversations about the political culture and the world that we're in," McCain said. She suggested that many of their audience members also lead busy lives that don't allow for extensive beauty routines or the use of such medications.
This is not the first time McCain has spoken out against body-shaming. In a May 2024 "Citizen McCain" podcast episode, she discussed the frequent suggestions she receive to take Ozempic, despite feeling healthy and having had a recent physical examination. She expressed her reluctance to use medication "to fit someone else's standards" and noted the persistent pressure she feels.
In a 2023 Daily Mail column published four weeks after the birth of her second daughter, McCain wrote about similar pressure. She stated that while she understood some individuals legitimately struggle with obesity, she was not one of them. She recounted being told "everyone is doing it" and even being offered "extra shots at home" but firmly declared her refusal to take the drug.
