Matthew Stafford Calls New York Giants a 'Dangerous' Team Ahead of Week 2 Matchup
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford praised the Giants' performance in their Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has identified the New York Giants as a "dangerous" team ahead of their Week 2 Monday Night Football clash. Stafford, the reigning MVP, shared his assessment on the SiriusXM NFL Radio show "Let's Go," which he co-hosts with Jim Gray.
"I thought the Giants did a heck of a job the other night," Stafford said, referring to the Giants' 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. He noted the significance of the win occurring on September 11th, 25 years after the attacks, and felt it was "right" for the team to play well.
Stafford, whose Rams lost their Week 1 game 27-7 to the San Francisco 49ers, watched the Giants' game to support his brother-in-law, Chad Hall, the team's wide receivers coach. He observed a "young team with a bunch of talent."
The Giants' defense, which significantly pressured Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, limiting him to 175 passing yards despite no sacks, also drew praise from Stafford. He acknowledged the talent of Prescott's receiving options, including CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
"I think Dak’s played at a high level for a long time now, and with CeeDee [Lamb] and Pick [George Pickens] and all those guys, they’re really talented on the outside,” Stafford stated. “So for them to get that win, 28-20, was a big start for their season.”
The Giants' defense features a mix of seasoned veterans like Brian Burns and Tremaine Edmunds, alongside emerging young talents such as rookie linebacker Arvelle Reese.
Stafford also commended the Giants' offense, particularly second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. "The young quarterback, Jaxson Dart, I thought played really well, played within himself, made some plays with his feet," Stafford commented.
Running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers, both returning from season-ending injuries last year, also made notable contributions. Skattebo rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, while Nabers recorded six receptions for 69 yards.
Despite the strong Week 1 performances from both teams, Stafford acknowledged that both the Rams and the Giants have long seasons ahead with 16 remaining games.
