Matthew McConaughey shared that he once invoked the name of his "Wedding Planner" co-star Jennifer Lopez to extricate himself from a difficult situation during a traffic stop in Mexico. The actor detailed the experience on the "Happy, Sad, Confused" podcast.

McConaughey, 56, described being pulled over by authorities while traveling south of the border. He noted that as a "gringo in a nice truck," he anticipated a potential problem. "It's one of those pullovers where they noticed me," he said.

As the interaction escalated, McConaughey recalled asking the officials, "You guys know Jennifer Lopez? Ever seen ‘Wedding Planner?'" He said the mention of Lopez, his co-star in the 2001 romantic comedy, elicited an excited response. "They were like, ‘Oh!’ They went off. We end up taking pictures together, and they let me go," McConaughey recounted. He did not specify the exact date of the incident.

The actor also reflected on his professional relationship with Lopez, 57. He praised her work ethic, telling People in 2024, "I’ve never seen someone be able to choreograph something so cleanly and clearly and actually hit the coordination of that scene." He described Lopez as "a worker" who knows what she wants and how to achieve it.

McConaughey and Lopez reunited virtually in 2021 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "The Wedding Planner." During their Instagram Live reunion, Lopez spoke fondly of their time working together, stating, "We had such a nice rapport and chemistry. We were somewhat at the beginning of our careers at that time. It was exciting to be working on any movie."

In the same podcast appearance, McConaughey also mentioned his 2003 film "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" with Kate Hudson, calling it his highest-earning film in terms of residuals by a significant margin.
