Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has filed for divorce from his wife, Elle Evans, after seven years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Bellamy, 48, officially submitted the paperwork on Wednesday.
In his filing, Bellamy requested sole legal and physical custody of their two young children, daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2. He also noted that the couple has a prenuptial agreement and requested that his ability to receive spousal support be terminated.
Evans, who has stated she will contest the custody arrangement, described the marriage as “unbearable” and the divorce as “a long time coming.” Representatives for both Bellamy and Evans did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The couple met in 2015 on the set of Bellamy’s music video for “Mercy” and became engaged two years later. They married in August 2019 in Malibu, California. Their daughter Lovella was born in June 2020, and their son George arrived in May 2024.
Bellamy publicly revealed their separation in June, telling i Paper that “a set of really unexpected circumstances” led to the split. He described the situation as something people don't typically prepare for and that he had to prioritize his children's stability at home. He credited this period as influencing the songwriting process for Muse’s latest album, “The Wow! Signal,” calling it a “lifeline” and “catharsis.”
Bellamy is also the father of 15-year-old son Bingham from his previous relationship with actress Kate Hudson. The former couple shares joint custody of Bingham, and Hudson has previously spoken positively about their co-parenting dynamic. She told Women's Health in 2021 that their focus was on ensuring their son felt he was gaining rather than losing something after their engagement ended, which she felt had even bonded her, Bellamy, Evans, and her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, closer through mutual trust in protecting each other.
