Countryfile presenter Matt Baker has announced the arrival of a new sheepdog puppy named Ted on his family's farm in the Chiltern Hills. The addition comes more than a year after the devastating loss of his beloved Border Collie, Bob, an event Baker described as deeply impactful.

Ted is reportedly settling in well, with Baker and his wife Nicola, parents to Luke, 18, and Molly, 16, engaging in light obedience training. Their miniature Dachshund, Ivy, has also taken to the new puppy, with Baker noting they are "getting on like a house on fire." He anticipates Ted will grow into a capable sheepdog and a household companion.

Baker, 48, previously shared the profound effect Bob's death had on the family, stating it "took a lot to get over him." He reflected on Bob's presence during significant life events, including the raising of their children and the changes on their family farm. The presenter expressed gratitude for the lessons learned from animals, encapsulating the sentiment that "Grief is the price you pay for love."

Bob, who had been with Baker for major life milestones, passed away some time before his death was publicly announced in May. Baker took to Instagram to pay tribute to his "ultimate companion," sharing that he had been left "broken" by the loss. He thanked Bob for the joy and lessons he brought to their family.

The news of Ted's arrival was shared as Baker continues to embrace his life in the Durham countryside, where he focuses on farming and making television shows like "Our Farm in the Dales." He has described his life as a "double life," balancing his television work with hands-on farming, finding creativity and fulfillment in the rural environment.
