A Massachusetts teenager is accused of fatally stabbing his mother and younger brother after allegedly using an artificial intelligence chatbot to create violent fantasies about murdering his family.

Arjun Aravind, 17, faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his brother, Siddharth Aravind, 14. Police discovered their bodies Tuesday night in their Acton home. Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan stated that Aravind had exhibited concerning behavior recently, including asking ChatGPT to generate "theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family." Ryan described these requests as the creation of "gothic novel-kind of stories."

The father of the family contacted police after a tutor was unable to gain entry to the residence. He reported last speaking with his wife earlier that morning. Siddharth Aravind was last seen around noon. Responding officers found the 14-year-old deceased on the first floor and Venkatesan in the basement.

Aravind allegedly fled the scene in his mother's vehicle and was apprehended by police early Wednesday morning in Wayland. Responding to an unrelated call, Wayland police located the car and took Aravind into custody without incident.

"This is an unspeakable tragedy," Ryan said during a press conference.

The official causes of death are pending determination by the medical examiner's office. Police have not disclosed the weapon used in the alleged attacks.

Authorities have charged Aravind with two counts of murder, two counts of assault and battery on a household or family member, two counts of assault and battery, use of a vehicle without authority, and theft of a motor vehicle. He was arraigned on the motor vehicle charges in Lowell Juvenile Court on Wednesday and is expected to be arraigned on murder charges Thursday in Concord District Court.
