A Maryland man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of another man in Baltimore's Inner Harbor on Sunday afternoon.
James Fitzsimmons, 36, of Parkville, is accused of killing James Britt, 37, of Baltimore. According to court documents, surveillance video shows the two men fighting in an alley before Britt crossed the street toward the water. Fitzsimmons then pursued Britt and pushed him into the harbor, police said.
Fitzsimmons told investigators that Britt jumped into the water. When Britt's girlfriend stated he could not swim, Fitzsimmons reportedly responded, "Oh well," and walked away.
Rescue divers recovered Britt, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. Fitzsimmons also faces charges of manslaughter and assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 27. Court records do not list an attorney for Fitzsimmons, and his phone number could not be found.
