More than 30 people sustained injuries on Wednesday when a Maryland Transit Administration bus crashed into a building in Pikesville, a suburb outside Baltimore. First responders were dispatched to the scene on Reisterstown Road following the collision, which also involved numerous civilian vehicles, including one that overturned.
Authorities reported that one individual was trapped inside the bus, and rescue crews extricated another person from a car. A building engineer was en route to assess the structural impact.
A second mass casualty incident alarm was issued shortly after the initial crash. Emergency services worked to extricate one critical patient who was transported to a hospital. Roads in the vicinity of the crash were closed, and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore stated that he was monitoring the situation and expressed gratitude for the swift actions of first responders. "Dawn and I are keeping everyone impacted in our hearts and prayers. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors," he wrote on social media platform X. "We’ve been in close coordination with local officials to provide any support needed on the ground."
