Martha Stewart's recent remarks about an encounter with Meghan Markle at a California dinner party have ignited discussions about the Duchess's standing in the United States. Stewart told People magazine in early August that she met Markle at an elite soirée shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had returned from a trip to the United Kingdom.

According to Stewart, she and Markle were both guests at the event. Stewart recounted, "We were both guests at a dinner party in California. She had just gotten back from the palace. I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it." This statement has been interpreted by some as implying that Markle may have discussed royal matters, which goes against the royal family's known preference for discretion.

A source close to Markle, however, has disputed this account, telling People magazine that the Duchess did not discuss her European vacation beyond mentioning that the family had a good time. This source stated, "I sat next to Meghan at the dinner party, and this account of what happened is simply untrue."

Stewart also offered commentary on Markle's transition from acting to pursuing a career in the lifestyle sector. "If you're an actress, it's hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show," Stewart told People. "It doesn't sort of follow. So go from there."

These comments come amid broader speculation about the Sussexes' business ventures. Their Netflix deal has reportedly ended, and previous podcast endeavors have also concluded. The author notes that the diminishing returns of tell-all interviews and memoirs, such as Prince Harry's "Spare" and Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey, have contributed to a decrease in public interest.

Oprah Winfrey herself has also appeared to re-examine her previous interviews with Markle. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Winfrey reflected on her 2021 conversation with Markle, during which Markle stated she was "silenced" by the Royal Family. Winfrey explained her line of questioning at the time was intended for clarification, stating, "I wanted to be clear because, was she silenced? Were people telling her not to talk? That's why I said that."

Meanwhile, other public figures have been subjects of commentary, including Brooklyn Beckham covering a tattoo tribute to his mother, Gayle King's reaction to comments about Hayden Panettiere's mother, and Kathy Griffin's remarks about Rosie O'Donnell. Additionally, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was seen dancing in a hardware store, and actor John Stamos posted a birthday selfie. Separately, former Congressman Eric Swalwell was reportedly subject to a federal search warrant related to sexual impropriety allegations.
