Chris Nield, a former participant on Married At First Sight, has become the subject of online discussion after sharing a video of his unconventional method for avoiding assistance with a Facebook Marketplace sale. The video, which has garnered over 178,000 views across Instagram and TikTok, depicts Nield devising a plan to feign a broken arm to escape the task of helping a buyer load a bed frame and mattress into their vehicle.
In the clip, Nield expresses his reluctance to help with the heavy lifting, citing fatigue. He then proceeds to put on an arm sling and rehearses an excuse about falling off scaffolding. When the buyer arrives, Nield maintains the pretense, allowing the buyer to load the furniture with minimal help. He concludes the video by humorously noting that the item was no longer his responsibility as he held the cash.
The stunt generated a divided response from viewers. Some found the act amusing and relatable, with many admitting they would employ a similar tactic. Others expressed disapproval, with one commenter stating, "You are going to hell." Some argued that it is generally the buyer's responsibility to arrange transport for larger items, while others suggested they would prefer to help just to expedite the sale.
Nield, who rose to prominence on Married At First Sight Australia, has spoken about his disdain for Facebook Marketplace, citing the time consumed by negotiations and interactions with potential buyers. He defended his action, stating that he had already dismantled the bed frame and moved it, and felt entitled to relax. He did, however, admit to feeling guilty.
Nield was paired with Brook Crompton on the reality show. Their relationship did not last, and they left the experiment separately. Nield has since reportedly turned to dating apps, including Raya and Hinge, and has relocated to the Gold Coast, Queensland.
