Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) stated that the Make America Great Again movement is "dead" and that former President Donald Trump has "betrayed" his supporters. Greene made these remarks Thursday during a discussion at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.

Greene elaborated on her feelings of disillusionment, asserting that both the Democratic and Republican parties have failed the American people. She pointed to the national debt of $40 trillion and the loss of manufacturing jobs overseas as evidence of this failure. "I watched every single small town in Georgia basically erode over my lifetime," she said. "I’m 52 years old, and every little small town I know has basically shut down factories that are like looming skeletons of an era gone by."

Greene, who was once a close ally of Trump and frequently appeared alongside him, explained that she ran for office in 2020 not as a "hardcore Republican," but out of anger and a desire for change. She initially believed in Trump's promises to prioritize America and avoid foreign conflicts. However, she now believes Trump has "lied so much to us and betrayed us so incredibly beyond any of my comprehension."

The congresswoman also expressed a lack of confidence in future leadership, stating she does not see a "credible candidate" emerging from either party for the 2028 election.

Greene and Trump had a public falling-out last year over her advocacy for the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump's administration had initially promised to release the files but later blocked their release, with Trump labeling the matter a "Democrat hoax" and calling Greene a "traitor."

Greene resigned from Congress in November 2025, apologizing for her involvement in what she described as "toxic politics."
