Mariska Hargitay continues to feel the impact of the New York Knicks' recent NBA championship, describing the experience as a "miracle" that altered her perception of what is possible.
The "Law & Order: SVU" actress, who has seen her public profile grow with her support for the Knicks and her Broadway debut, reflected on the team's first NBA title in 53 years in a recent interview with Variety.
Hargitay recounted attending Game 4 of the NBA Finals, where she sat courtside with musicians Taylor Swift, Este Haim, and Alana Haim. The game featured a dramatic comeback victory for the Knicks, highlighted by a game-winning tip-in from OG Anunoby.
"You're standing in a miracle," Hargitay told Variety. "The world was changed. New York was changed. The bar of what's possible has changed. You can be down 29 points and still win — this is what's in the consciousness of young athletes now."
The actress, 62, even altered her Broadway schedule to attend the pivotal game. She reportedly ended her one-person show "Every Brilliant Thing" four minutes early and rushed approximately 10 blocks to Madison Square Garden, choosing to be present for the game over potentially sitting in a skybox.
Her dedication extended to Game 5, which coincided with another of her scheduled performances. Hargitay inquired if Daniel Radcliffe, who originated the role in "Every Brilliant Thing," could perform for her that night, allowing her to catch the second half of the championship game from home.
Beyond her personal connection to the games, Hargitay has developed a notable relationship with Knicks' Finals MVP Jalen Brunson. Brunson has expressed his gratitude for her support, calling her his "favorite New York Knicks fan."
"I'm so grateful for the relationship we have been able to build over the last few years. As a lifelong fan of 'SVU,' her support means the world to me. I'm truly grateful to have her in my corner," Brunson told Variety.
Hargitay was also present on Brunson's float during the Knicks' championship parade in Manhattan in June. She was seen embracing Brunson's father, Rick Brunson, a former Knicks player and current assistant coach, on the court after Game 4. Hargitay was also quoted telling Jalen Brunson, "I love you so much, I'm so happy!" following the victory.
Actor Ben Stiller commented on the bond between Hargitay and the Knicks, noting on a podcast that the affection Hargitay receives from players post-game is a source of envy for other celebrity fans.
The Knicks are scheduled to open their 2026-27 season against the 76ers on October 20.
