Mariska Hargitay, host of the 2026 Emmy Awards, made a striking entrance on the red carpet alongside her husband Peter Hermann and their three children: August, Andrew, and Amaya. Hargitay and her 15-year-old daughter, Amaya, coordinated their looks in nearly identical, shimmering red Monse gowns. Both dresses were adorned with sequins and feathers, complemented by strappy red heels and minimal jewelry.
The mother-daughter duo's matching ensembles served as a tribute to Hargitay's late mother, Jayne Mansfield. Mansfield famously wore a similar sequined, ruby-red gown in the 1956 film "The Girl Can't Help It." This is not the first time Hargitay has honored her mother through fashion; in 2023, she recreated one of Mansfield's iconic leopard print looks for an Interview magazine photo shoot. Hargitay has previously spoken about seeking signs of her mother's presence, stating on "Today," "I am always looking for signs that she’s with me."
While Hargitay is not nominated for an award at this year's ceremony, she recently won two Creative Arts Emmys for her documentary "My Mom Jane," which honors Mansfield. Hargitay described her hosting duties for the Emmys as an "extraordinary opportunity" and expressed excitement about being part of such a historic event, emphasizing that she sees it as a collective experience rather than a personal one.
