The first season of 'Dutton Ranch' concluded with the reintroduction of Mariano Reyes, a former ranch hand and father to Joaquin. The character, portrayed by actor Raoul Max Trujillo, plays a pivotal role in the show's present-day storyline.

Mariano's Past and Present Connections

Flashbacks in Episode 7 revealed a younger Mariano's involvement with Beulah in August 1981. He acted as a protective figure, taking Beulah and her friends to a bar where she was later assaulted. Following this, Beulah became pregnant, and Mariano drove her to the assailant's house, where she fatally shot him. Mariano subsequently left Rio Paloma, and Beulah raised Joaquin as her own.

The season finale provided further insight into Mariano's current life in Mexico, where he is seen as a godfather, or "El Padrino," at a christening. Despite his seemingly peaceful life, he instructs a man named Gato to gather men for a trip to Rio Paloma.

Beulah later explained the complex history to Everett, detailing how her father blamed Mariano for the shooting incident. This led to a deal where Mariano took the blame and disappeared to Mexico, while Beulah and her sons cared for baby Joaquin. Tragically, Mariano's wife, Joaquin's mother, was killed during this transition at the border.

Mariano's Return and Influence

Responding to Joaquin's call for assistance, Mariano arrived in Rio Paloma with a convoy of vehicles. He met with Kino, learning about Beulah passing control of the 10-Petal ranch to her biological son and the involvement of "strangers" in the business. Mariano then visited Beulah, acknowledging her success in building a "kingdom" despite the challenging environment. When Beulah asked to be freed from their dealings, Mariano demanded she publicly reinstate Joaquin as her successor and dismiss Beth and Rip, or he would take action.

After being informed of an ambush by Beth and Rip, Mariano imparted a lesson on power to Kino, emphasizing anticipation and proactive leadership. He concluded by instructing Kino to kill his brother.
