A manhunt has been launched after a suspect, Stephen Grzyb, 22, escaped from custody on his way to Liverpool Magistrates' Court on August 1, 2026. Grzyb, who had been charged with a domestic-related burglary, fled on foot around 10 a.m. after arriving at the court.
GEOAmey, a prisoner transport contractor, was responsible for transporting Grzyb from a police custody suite. According to Merseyside Police, he ran off down Red Cross Street in the direction of The Strand. Grzyb is described as white with short, dark hair and was last seen wearing a navy T-shirt and navy shorts.
Police have visited the home of the alleged victim in the case to ensure her safety while the search for Grzyb continues. Inspector Bethan Hannon urged the public to call 999 immediately if they spot him, emphasizing the importance of locating him quickly. "If you have heard from him or know where he is, please do the right thing and come forward," Hannon stated. "Assisting him in any way will bring police to your own door, so it is not an association worth keeping."
Officers are conducting extensive inquiries across the city center, utilizing patrols and CCTV, to find Grzyb and return him to custody. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police, referencing number 26000615520.
