The public cafeteria at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, located at 100 Centre Street, has been temporarily closed following multiple city Department of Health inspections that identified significant pest problems, including the presence of mice and cockroaches. The issues, documented on July 1 and July 23, also included violations for improper food temperature storage and employees using tobacco products or eating while on duty.

Despite these findings, the cafeteria received a "B" grade in its latest inspections. Sources familiar with the eatery described unsanitary conditions, with one retired cafeteria worker reporting seeing mice near the stove. Another source indicated that the establishment should be shut down due to the pervasive pest issues.

Records show that mice were previously found in the kitchen in April 2025, an issue that had reportedly been resolved before a subsequent review in August of that year. Photos from the courthouse on August 27 show the cafeteria closed, with signs indicating face coverings are required for entry.

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services stated that the cafeteria is currently closed for work related to the building's plumbing and drainage systems, and not directly due to the health inspection findings. The reopening timeline is dependent on the completion of these facility upgrades.
