Manchester United has moved to quell speculation that the transfer of midfielder Ederson from Atalanta for £39 million is in jeopardy. Club sources have refuted reports circulating Sunday night, asserting that the deal's structure and personal terms are agreed upon and that the move was always intended for completion in July.

The Brazilian midfielder, who is nearing his 27th birthday, has reportedly undergone an initial medical check. However, United confirmed he will now complete a full medical examination, with Brazil's participation in the ongoing World Cup now concluded. The team was eliminated in the last-16 stage on Sunday.

United reached an agreement with Atalanta at the beginning of June for the transfer, which includes a base fee of £35 million with an additional £3.8 million in add-ons. The club has faced challenges in securing additional midfield reinforcements, having missed out on targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to rival clubs.

In related midfield news, Manchester United is reportedly considering a move for Chelsea's Andrey Santos. United's interest is in its initial stages, and no formal contact has been made with Chelsea. The club is aware that Santos may become available due to competition from Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo at Stamford Bridge, particularly after Caicedo's recent contract extension. Newcastle is also reported to be among the clubs monitoring the 22-year-old Brazilian, who previously had loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg. Chelsea is understood to value Santos at approximately £50 million, though it remains unlikely United would meet that valuation given their continued assessment of other targets, such as Bournemouth's Alex Scott.
