A man was stabbed on a New York City subway train during the Thursday morning commute, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. as a downtown No. 2 train passed through the 96th Street station on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

The victim, who is 30 years old, was reportedly engaged in an argument with a stranger when the assailant attacked him. Police and law enforcement sources stated that the attacker used brass knuckles, described as "modified," to stab the victim multiple times, including in the neck and back.

Following the assault, the attacker fled the train. However, law enforcement officers apprehended him nearby while they were searching the area with the victim. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken into custody, and charges were pending. The injured man was transported to Mount Sinai West hospital in stable condition.
