British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV footage of an individual they want to identify following an alleged attempted rape on a London Underground train. The incident reportedly occurred on a Bakerloo Line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations around 11:40 p.m. on Saturday.
According to police reports, a man approached a woman traveling alone, exposed himself, and then forcibly pulled her to the ground, attempting to rape her. The woman managed to fight back and escaped the train at Lambeth North, where she alerted station staff. The man remained on the train and exited at Elephant and Castle Underground station.
Officers are investigating the man's movements and believe he may have been at Oxford Circus before the incident and Piccadilly Circus Underground station afterward. Detective Sergeant Krishan Appannah of BTP stated, "Our officers are supporting the victim following this horrific incident. We understand incidents of this nature are deeply concerning for the public and we're appealing to them directly to help us identify the man in the CCTV footage."
One line of inquiry suggests the individual may be homeless. Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the released CCTV images to provide his name by texting 61016, referencing case number 948 of July 11. Authorities state that the individual may possess crucial information for the ongoing investigation. Witnesses or anyone with information can also contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
