Dramatic surveillance footage shows a police officer firing a single shot at a naked, blood-covered man who lunged at her with a piece of shattered glass inside a Southern California hospital.

The incident occurred on July 2, 2026, at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, where Luis Ramirez-Macias, 46, was under police guard. Officer Carly Grice of the Simi Valley Police Department was supervising Ramirez-Macias, who had been admitted for medical attention.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, the situation escalated when Ramirez-Macias, while being assessed by hospital staff, grabbed a glass medication vial, broke it, and used the jagged fragments as a weapon. He allegedly injured himself before advancing on Officer Grice, prompting her to discharge her firearm.

The video released by the police department captures Ramirez-Macias, smeared with blood and unclothed, moving through the hospital hallway with the improvised weapon. Grice is seen retreating before firing the shot.

Hospital staff immediately provided medical aid to Ramirez-Macias, who survived the shooting and remained hospitalized for several days. Following his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.

Los Robles Hospital issued a statement shortly after the incident, assuring the public that patient care remained uninterrupted and that all individuals within the facility were safe. The hospital stated its priority was to continue providing high-quality care.

The encounter at the hospital followed a domestic dispute call to a Simi Valley home earlier that day. Investigators determined that Ramirez-Macias had allegedly attempted to kill his wife before harming himself. Both individuals were hospitalized, with Ramirez-Macias subsequently being taken to Los Robles Hospital under police supervision.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, as the incident falls within their jurisdiction.
