Anthony Hall, 50, was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, after driving from Huddersfield to near Carlisle, a distance of approximately 150 miles, while under the influence of alcohol. In addition to the suspended sentence, Hall was ordered to undergo rehabilitation activities and abstain from alcohol for 90 days.
Magistrate Tracey McErlain-Burns noted that Hall had no previous convictions and had experienced difficult personal circumstances leading up to the incident. His defense lawyer, Adele Graham, stated that Hall had felt trapped and sought to distance himself from his situation, describing the act as a "poor decision while in crisis."
Despite not holding a license at the time of the offense, Hall was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £272 in costs. He took his partner's car for the journey, which occurred at night.
