Man Jailed for Setting Woman on Fire in Stafford Tower Block

Reece Brivitt, 33, has been sentenced to 11 years and nine months in prison for setting a woman on fire inside a flat in a tower block. The incident occurred on October 22 on Milton Grove, Stafford. Brivitt poured petrol and vodka on the victim before igniting her, causing serious burns to her chest and legs that have resulted in life-changing injuries.

Brivitt pleaded guilty to charges of arson with intent to endanger life and wounding with intent. He was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday and also received an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

Detective Constable Jessica Scott of Staffordshire Police described the attack as "cruel" and noted the severe injuries sustained by the victim. Scott also highlighted the broader danger posed by the fire to other residents of the tower block. Firefighters responded swiftly, extinguishing the blaze and preventing further injuries.

Mark Walchester, delivery group manager for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, praised the crews' rapid response in minimizing risks to residents and containing the fire. He emphasized the devastating potential of fires in multi-occupancy buildings like flat blocks and houses.
