A man described as deranged and possibly armed is in a standoff with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in MacArthur Park after reportedly barricading himself inside a bathroom. Dozens of officers responded to the scene and established a perimeter.
Video from the incident appeared to show the individual holding what might be a firearm to his own head. According to the LAPD, the man initially allegedly pointed the suspected weapon at a bystander who then called 911. The individual is now situated inside a restroom within the park.
MacArthur Park, located in downtown Los Angeles, has a reputation for criminal activity and drug use within its public spaces.
