A man who climbed onto a hospital roof dressed as the Grim Reaper has been fined for his actions. Leon Gillespie, 26, was fined for the incident at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital in St Asaph, Denbighshire.
Gillespie, dressed head-to-toe in a black hooded outfit, stood overlooking the hospital entrance for approximately 50 minutes. He was described as brandishing a long blade and his costume was also referred to as being that of a 'crow'.
The incident prompted a response from four police cars and firefighters. Hospital visitors reportedly expressed shock at the display.
Gillespie pleaded guilty to the offense at Llandudno magistrates and was handed a £200 fine. He was also ordered to pay £50 in compensation and £100 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
In addition to the hospital incident, Gillespie admitted to separate charges. He pleaded guilty to stealing £30-40 worth of cat food and cat litter from Pets at Home in Llandudno on March 26. He also admitted to stealing food and drink from Sainsbury's in Llandudno on May 28.
A spokesperson for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board stated that the health board maintains a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, aggression, or nuisance within its hospital sites.
