Del Leon Somerville, 42, appeared in court facing charges related to disruptions that occurred during an anti-migrant demonstration in Portsmouth. The incidents, which took place until the early hours of Monday, resulted in damage to police vehicles and those belonging to the coastguard and Border Force.

Hampshire Police reported that a small number of officers received treatment at the scene for injuries sustained during the disorder, though no attendees were seriously injured. The force has stated it intends to use powers under the Crime and Policing Act 2025 to manage protests, ensuring peaceful demonstrations while preventing violence. These powers will be applicable within a designated map area between Saturday 10:00 BST and Sunday 10:00 BST, with a specific warning that protesters wearing face coverings could face arrest.

Similar measures are being implemented by other police forces. Staffordshire Police announced a ban on face coverings for a planned protest in Tamworth, where the group Britain First intends to hold a 'March for Remigration.' Northumbria Police has also introduced a comparable ban in Newcastle city centre.

The disorder in Portsmouth followed a separate anti-migrant protest that occurred at the Port of Dover the previous day. Groups, including South Coast Patriots, were expected to demonstrate in Portsmouth city centre, with Stand Up To Racism planning a counter-protest.
