A 68-year-old man has died during the SAS Fan Dance endurance event held in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, also known as the Brecon Beacons, in south Wales. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 4.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed they received a call concerning welfare issues for a male on Pen y Fan, the park's highest peak, around 11 a.m. Officers responded alongside the Mountain Rescue and Ambulance Service. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been notified, and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The Fan Dance event, organized by All Executes Events (AEE), is a challenging race that typically takes between three and seven hours to complete, with duration influenced by weather conditions. On Saturday, temperatures in the vicinity of Brecon were recorded at approximately 20 degrees Celsius.

AEE stated that their immediate focus is with the deceased man's family. The organization and its March Director indicated that no further press releases would be issued until the family is fully briefed on the timeline of events and approves any forthcoming communications. AEE confirmed their team is actively working on compiling this information. The organization also expressed gratitude for the prompt and professional response from the Air Ambulance Service, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, and AEE's own Mountain Safety Team. Maze of the area
