Jason Gledhill, a 55-year-old father of one, died after being electrocuted while working alone in a maintenance room at the Southampton Harbour Hotel. The incident occurred on August 13, and emergency services were called to the scene. A post-mortem examination confirmed electrocution as the cause of death.

An inquest into Mr. Gledhill's death was adjourned to June 30, 2027, and will be held at Winchester Coroners' Court. Police stated that the incident was not being treated as suspicious and that they were liaising with Environmental Health. The Health and Safety Executive has been contacted for comment.

Mr. Gledhill, who was from Denton, Greater Manchester, was an installation manager with previous experience as an electrician and network planner for British Telecom. His death has prompted tributes from his family and his former cricket club.

His wife, Paula, and daughter, Georgina, shared a public message expressing their heartbreak and thanking others for their support. Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club, where Mr. Gledhill was a committee member, remembered him as a "true all-round club-man" who had given "so much of himself" to the club over the years. The club held a minute's silence in his memory.

An inquest into Mr Gledhill's death has been adjourned until next year (pictured: emergency services at the hotel in Southampton)

At the time of the incident, multiple emergency vehicles, including fire engines, ambulances, and an air ambulance, were present at the hotel. Police were seen collecting evidence. Phone lines at the hotel were temporarily disrupted, and the main entrance was cordoned off following the incident.
