A bicyclist sustained critical injuries after being attacked with a hatchet during an argument on a Fresno street Monday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Effie Street.
The Fresno Police Department responded to reports of the stabbing. According to authorities, the victim was riding his bicycle with a friend when a suspect emerged from a nearby neighborhood and initiated an argument. The suspect then reportedly produced a small hatchet and assaulted the bicyclist, striking him in the ribs and back.
Police cordoned off a section of Belmont Avenue and a nearby bus station as part of their investigation.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in steady condition. The identities of both the victim and the suspect have not been released.
This incident is one of several recent violent occurrences in Fresno. In late July, two individuals were arrested following a stabbing at a gas station, which stemmed from an argument over parking while refueling. Earlier in June, another man was stabbed multiple times outside the city's Superior Courthouse after a dispute between two men.
