Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his girlfriend, Alessia Elefante, were the victims of a violent home invasion in Paris in 2023, a court has heard. Donnarumma, who was playing for Paris Saint-Germain at the time, and Elefante, who was pregnant, were reportedly attacked while asleep in their apartment on Avenue Montaigne, a luxury street in the French capital.
A Paris criminal court is currently holding a two-day hearing concerning the incident. Court documents revealed that Donnarumma was awoken by an intruder and subsequently struck in the face with a knuckle duster, while also being threatened with a knife. The robbers demanded watches, and Donnarumma showed them an Audemars Piguet. His partner told investigators that she was also threatened and demanded to hand over money and watches. She gave them a Cartier watch, jewelry, and €2,000 in cash.
Elefante reported that the thieves also accosted her for a safe's code, which she claimed not to know and stated was empty. She told investigators that the robbers became angry, pulled her by the hair, and hit her thighs, continuing even after she informed them of her pregnancy. Donnarumma eventually provided the code to the safe, which, as Elefante had stated, contained nothing.
The intruders reportedly fled with keys to a Mercedes and a Lamborghini, along with cash, watches, and luxury handbags. The court was informed that the four robbers gained entry to the apartment by using a ladder to reach the roof, then descending to a balcony and forcing entry through windows.
Two individuals, Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, and Khyan Mamouni, are accused of orchestrating the robbery from prison, though both deny the charges. Kherbouch, who had previously escaped from jail and spent 13 days at large, reportedly caused a disturbance at the trial's opening by insulting and threatening police officers. He later stated he did not wish to be present at the trial.
Two of the robbers, who were under 18 at the time of the incident, have already received prison sentences of three and four years in a children's court. Another defendant, Moktar Diop, 24, admitted to his involvement but is not accused of using violence. A fourth suspect, who had admitted to being involved but claimed to have acted under pressure from accomplices, died by suicide in 2024.
Lawyers for Donnarumma and Elefante have stated that the couple remains "profoundly shocked" by the ordeal. The trial is ongoing.
