A 31-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of Joanne Doyle, 57, who was struck by an e-bike while crossing the road in Liverpool.
Kieran Sewards appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on September 1, 2026, via video link. He entered not guilty pleas to charges of manslaughter and Section 20 wounding. Sewards was remanded into custody, and his trial is scheduled to begin on February 8, 2027.
The incident occurred on July 7, 2026, around 3:35 p.m. on Mount Vernon Street. Ms. Doyle was on a zebra crossing when she was hit by the e-bike. She later died in hospital from her injuries.
Merseyside Police confirmed that specially trained family liaison officers are supporting Ms. Doyle's family. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson stated that the investigation has led to Sewards's charging and that further comment on the case's specifics would be inappropriate due to active criminal proceedings.
In a statement released through the police, Ms. Doyle's family described her as a "loving, kind and amazing" person, a "kind-hearted, generous soul who always put others before herself." They added that she was "tragically and suddenly taken from us far too soon and will be missed forever."
