A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and failing to stop after a car struck a cyclist in his 50s, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 6, at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Aylward Street in Stepney Green, east London.

CCTV footage appears to show the moment the car collided with the cyclist at speed before the driver fled the scene. Witnesses rushed to the aid of the injured cyclist. Paramedics treated the man, who was then transported to a major trauma center as a priority.

The driver, identified as Parvez Ahmed Rahman, 33, was initially arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road incident, and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs. He has since been charged with attempted murder and failing to stop, but not with impaired driving.

Rahman appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday, August 8, and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on September 4.
