For the past 33 years, Andy Park, a 62-year-old from Melksham, Wiltshire, has celebrated Christmas every single day. His unwavering commitment to the holiday began on July 14, 1993, when a decision to lift his spirits on a hot summer day led to the establishment of this unique, year-round tradition.
Park's daily festivities include opening presents, using Christmas crackers, and enjoying a roast dinner with all the trimmings, mince pies, and sherry. Even during extreme heat waves reaching up to 36 degrees Celsius, he adapts his celebrations, sometimes eating with his feet in a paddling pool or barbecuing his Christmas dinner. "Every day is Christmas Day to me and I’ve got to do what I do, no matter what," Park stated. "No matter if it’s freezing cold or boiling up, I still do it."
His routine begins each morning at 8 a.m. with several mince pies and a glass of sherry. After preparing Christmas dinner, he heads to his job repairing appliances before continuing his celebrations at 3 p.m. with the televised Christmas message, adapting it to the current monarch. He also buys himself presents daily and writes Christmas cards, now delivering them to his own letterbox to save on postage.
Park's dedication began after a particularly hot day when he returned home from a washing machine delivery. He retrieved decorations and a Christmas tree from his loft, put up lights, and found a recording of the Queen's speech to recreate the holiday atmosphere. The following day, he bought presents and repeated the process, a habit he has maintained ever since.
This prolonged festive observance has come at a significant cost, with Park estimating he has spent approximately £1 million on Christmas over the last three decades. He claims to have consumed around 14,000 turkeys, 1.25 million Brussels sprouts, and 2.25 million mince pies. His consumption also includes an estimated 7,500 Christmas crackers and 7,500 party poppers annually, along with 14,000 bottles of champagne over the years.
To manage expenses, Park purchases decorations during the January sales, acquiring hundreds of pounds worth for a fraction of the price. His family has largely come to accept his lifestyle, with his grandchildren reportedly enjoying visits due to the consistent presence of gifts. Park also expressed anticipation for the launch of a new Christmas-themed television channel, which he believes will allow him to watch Christmas movies daily.
