A 28-year-old man has been arrested on an involuntary manslaughter charge following a fireworks explosion that killed a woman and injured three other individuals in Chino, California. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, also caused a nearby vehicle to catch fire.
Authorities identified the suspect as Derion Tradon James Jr., of Hesperia. He was detained at the scene and subsequently booked into the West Valley Detention Center. Jail records indicate he is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
Four people were transported to a hospital following the explosion, including three adults and one juvenile. Officials confirmed on Sunday morning that a woman in her 20s succumbed to her injuries. The other two injured adults sustained serious injuries but are expected to recover. The juvenile was taken for evaluation and later released to their family.
According to the Chino Police Department, preliminary investigations suggest that a large quantity of fireworks ignited, leading to the explosion and subsequent vehicle fire. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
