A man is accused of fatally stabbing a young mother as she slept next to her husband and their newborn baby after breaking into their home. The alleged attack occurred early on July 12 in Hayes, West London.
Daniel Sean James, 46, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possessing a blade in connection with the incident. Prosecutors allege that before entering the family home, James, dressed in black and carrying a large knife, approached multiple residences. CCTV and doorbell cameras reportedly captured his movements.
Minutes before the fatal stabbing, James allegedly attacked a man in his 20s in the street, inflicting non-life-threatening stab wounds to his back. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Around 7:51 a.m., James allegedly kicked at the door of the home shared by Kirandeep Kaur, 24, her husband, and their three-month-old baby. The husband reportedly awoke to his wife's scream and saw a figure leaving the bedroom.
James then allegedly jumped out of a window in the kitchen-living room area. He reportedly broke both ankles upon landing and was detained by police nearby approximately 24 minutes after the first alleged sighting.
Forensic officers were observed at the scene on Uxbridge Road following the incident. Mrs. Kaur suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m. The court was told that both victims were complete strangers to the defendant.
James appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs on Thursday. A plea hearing is scheduled for October 1, with a provisional trial set to begin on April 5 of next year. He was remanded into custody.
