A man accused of murdering his father, whose body was discovered partially on fire in western Sydney, requested in court to be called 'Ardi' instead of by his shared surname.

Edicar Solis, the accused, appeared in Penrith Local Court on Friday with a bandaged hand. His lawyer, Javid Faiz, informed the court that his client wished to be referred to as Ardi and not by his surname, Solis. The victim, Ricardo Solis, was found in the early hours of Thursday in front of a home. Police allege Edicar Solis killed his father outside the residence following a confrontation.

Faiz also requested that his client be assessed by two psychiatrists, pushing for the case to be handled under mental health laws. He stated that Solis had been released from custody in April and that materials indicated ongoing mental health issues requiring psychiatric attention. The lawyer emphasized the importance of considering mental health within families before tragedies occur.

However, Judge Stephen Corry suggested that treatment could be provided while Solis remains in custody, noting the violent nature of the allegations. The judge ordered Solis to be assessed by NSW Corrective Services. The court also postponed a police application for a forensic procedure on Solis until the next hearing in September.

Solis, who appeared expressionless during the proceedings, did not apply for bail. He was arrested around five hours after the alleged altercation with his father, after being treated for minor injuries and taken to a hospital under police guard. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
