A California man is facing multiple attempted murder charges after allegedly carjacking a vehicle and then striking at least 10 pedestrians during a two-hour crime spree through Culver City and Los Angeles on June 16. Juan Luis Estrada, 45, of Perris, is accused of stealing a white Toyota Camry at knifepoint and initiating a pursuit with authorities.

According to police, Estrada intentionally swerved to hit pedestrians on multiple occasions. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Estrada speeding away from a gas station and striking a running pedestrian, launching the individual into the air. The vehicle's back tire then reportedly ran over the victim's legs. He is also accused of hitting another pedestrian on a sidewalk near a different gas station, as well as a cyclist at the same location.

Dashcam footage captured Estrada allegedly swerving to hit another pedestrian crossing the street. The chase concluded when Estrada crashed into a car in a McDonald's drive-thru. He then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers, who reportedly had to hog-tie him to gain control. A police officer sustained an injury during the arrest.

Estrada was taken into custody on a $10.25 million bond. He has been charged with ten counts of attempted murder, carjacking, felony evading a police officer causing serious bodily injury, battery on a peace officer, and three counts of felony hit-and-run. Police stated that none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

A hearing is scheduled for July to determine Estrada's mental competency to stand trial.
