Harry Maguire faces a significant challenge in rejoining the England squad after his family's public reaction to his World Cup exclusion.

Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, was not included in the 27-man squad announced by manager Thomas Tuchel. This decision comes despite injuries to other defenders, John Stones and Dan Burn, who were part of the summer tournament in America.

Maguire himself announced his exclusion in May, tweeting about his "shock" before the World Cup squad was officially revealed. His mother, Zoe, also posted on social media, expressing that she was "absolutely disgusted" by Tuchel's decision.

When questioned about Maguire at the squad announcement, Tuchel stated, "I will not hold it against him for the rest of his life, because I'm not that type of person. I can forget easily and quickly, but I didn't like it and it doesn't help."

Another player who may find his international prospects affected is Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. He was also omitted from the current squad, with Tuchel explaining he has an abundance of "number tens" to choose from.

Gibbs-White's partner, Britney De Villiers, reacted to the announcement by sharing a Premier League statistic on Instagram, highlighting that he is the only player to have created more than five chances in a single game this season.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been selected for the squad, appearing ahead of Maguire. Branthwaite has impressed after recovering from injury problems and has been performing well this season. "We have had Jarrad for a long time on our radar and in our notes," Tuchel said of Branthwaite. "It's big potential. He's fast, tall, good in build-up, has a strong left foot. It seems like he has a good package to offer. The coach at Everton speaks very highly of him."
