New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman has expressed skepticism about Donald Trump's potential candidacy for president in 2028, despite his previous suggestions of running for an unconstitutional third term. Haberman stated during an appearance at The Atlantic Festival that she does not believe Trump will run, emphasizing that he "doesn’t want that, and he doesn’t need it."
Haberman, who co-authored the Trump tell-all book "Regime Change" with Jonathan Swan, acknowledged the possibility of being wrong, stating, "It’s really important to acknowledge when we’re wrong, which all of us have been at various points in the last 20 years." However, her firm prediction is that Trump will remain a dominant figure in the Republican Party regardless of whether he holds office.
She also noted that Trump has accumulated significant wealth, reportedly making more money than ever before during his presidency, at least in terms of known liquid assets. Haberman predicted that Trump would continue to be the dominant figure in the GOP until his death.
