Ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro appears to have slimmed down during his time behind bars, according to new photographs from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. The images, dated June 25, 2026, show Maduro, 63, smiling and flashing a peace sign while wearing a gray tracksuit and white sneakers.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by U.S. Special Forces in Caracas in January 2026. They were subsequently brought to New York and indicted on charges of allegedly using their leadership positions to collaborate with drug cartels in shipping thousands of tons of cocaine into the United States between 1999 and 2025. Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Maduro's trial is scheduled to begin in June 2027, as confirmed by prosecutors with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office and Maduro’s defense lawyers last month.

Since Maduro's capture, Venezuela has been led by former Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who has reportedly established closer ties with the Trump administration.
