MS NOW host Rachel Maddow has identified a pattern of actions by the Trump White House that she suggests are being strategically delayed until after the 2026 midterm elections. Maddow highlighted reports that various controversial policies and decisions have been postponed, potentially to mitigate negative public reaction that could impact election outcomes.

In a segment titled "Trump sets bad policy time bomb for after midterms," Maddow detailed several instances. These include reports of the White House directing the Department of Justice to postpone further criminalization of abortion, and Donald Trump delaying an anticipated action against Iran. Additionally, the administration is reportedly holding off on implementing a new rule that could affect access to cheaper Canadian medications.

Maddow also pointed to the Pentagon withholding a report concerning an Iran school strike and the Treasury Department delaying plans to utilize private debt collectors for student loans. She noted that all these decisions have been pushed beyond the midterm elections, coinciding with concerns within the Republican party about potential losses in both the House and the Senate, amid Donald Trump's historically low approval ratings.

"They are looking forward to doing all of this stuff to you, but they know it is not exactly popular," Maddow stated, characterizing the strategy as "hiding the ball." She suggested the intent is to prevent these issues from influencing voters' decisions during the election cycle. "They’re hoping people don’t think about this stuff or maybe don’t even know about this stuff when they are deciding who to vote for in these elections or whether they will vote at all," she added.
