Mackenzie Phillips has identified Richard Masur as a "co-star who wasn't very nice" during her time on the set of the classic sitcom "One Day at a Time." Phillips, who portrayed Julie Cooper on the show, shared these recollections on a recent episode of former co-star Valerie Bertinelli's podcast, "Getting Naked."
"Richard Masur wasn't very nice," Phillips stated on the podcast. Bertinelli noted that Masur's role was limited to the first season, to which Phillips reiterated her sentiment about his on-set demeanor.

Masur portrayed divorce lawyer David Kane for one season on "One Day at a Time." His character departed the series after ending his relationship with Ann Romano, played by Bonnie Franklin.
The sitcom, developed by Norman Lear, ran for nine seasons on CBS from 1975 to 1984. The main cast also included Bertinelli, Pat Harrington Jr., and Mary Louise Wilson.
During the same podcast episode, Bertinelli discussed her own experiences working with Lear, the renowned television producer who passed away in 2023 at the age of 101. She admitted to being "always afraid" of Lear, particularly when she struggled with a crying scene in the show's first season finale. Phillips shared a positive relationship with Lear, describing him as a trusted figure whom she
