Luisa Zissman, a former contestant on 'The Apprentice,' has disclosed that she paid her 16-year-old daughter, Dixie, £2,750 as an incentive for achieving her GCSE results. Zissman, 39, stated on her podcast 'LuAnna' that she felt like a "mug" after learning that none of her daughter's private school classmates received similar financial rewards for their grades.
Dixie needed to attain grades of six and seven, equivalent to A's and B's, to secure a place in the sixth form of a new boarding school. Zissman explained that after Dixie did not achieve the desired marks in her mock exams, she decided to implement a financial incentive. "I really want to teach them that in life, if you work hard, you get good financial rewards," Zissman said, adding, "Like the harder you work, the more you earn normally."
Zissman initially promised Dixie £1,500 for each grade of nine, £1,000 for an eight, and £500 for a seven. She also offered £250 for a six, with a deduction for any grade below a four. Ultimately, Dixie's results led to a payout of £2,750.
The revelation came after Zissman drove Dixie and her friends to the Reading Festival. During the trip, Dixie mentioned receiving money for her grades, prompting Zissman to ask her friends if they had also received payments. "She told me that all the kids were getting it at school. I'm such a mug!" Zissman recalled.
Upon further inquiry, Zissman discovered that she was the only parent among the eight students in the car who had offered such an incentive. "Turns out none of them did. Eight kids in the car. I've been well shafted. But I actually don't care," she stated.
Last month, Zissman shared a video of Dixie reading her results, expressing immense pride. "I’m so proud of my baby. She is amazing, hard work pays off and she worked so hard to achieve the results she wanted and exceeded everyone’s expectations!!" Zissman wrote. She also humorously advised other 16-year-olds about the upcoming A-Levels, noting they are significantly more challenging than GCSEs.
Zissman, who left school at 16 to start her own business, rose to prominence on series nine of 'The Apprentice' in 2013, where she finished as the runner-up. She now works as a content creator and co-hosts the 'LuAnna' podcast with Anna Williamson. Zissman is a mother of three; her daughters Indigo and Clementine live with her and her husband Andrew Collins, while Dixie, from a previous marriage, continued her education at a UK boarding school.
