Love Island contestant Elicia Bailey directly addressed comments made by fellow islander Priya Jaswal that Bailey perceived as "job-shaming." The confrontation occurred during a segment on Sunday's show when former contestants returned to the villa to vote on which couple did not deserve a place in the final.
Priya had previously been criticized by viewers for remarks about Bailey's role at National Rail, with some calling her comments "vile, classist and tone deaf." Bailey, who stated she earned approximately £30,000 annually in her position, defended her career.
"There was a comment that was made publicly that was job-shaming myself," Bailey said. "I didn't really agree with it, and Mica I saw that you laughed during that conversation."
Bailey also called out islander Mica Harris for laughing during the original conversation about her job. Harris apologized, explaining her laughter was out of disbelief rather than agreement.
Ultimately, Bailey was among seven other islanders who voted to eliminate Mica and her partner Samraj, narrowly missing a spot in the Love Island final. Following their exit, Priya admitted to making mistakes and feeling "humbled" by the experience.
Bailey stated that Priya's comments were a "personal attack" on her career, contrasting it with her own remarks about Priya on the show, which she described as answering a question and not an attack on character. Viewers expressed outrage on social media over Priya's comments, with many defending Bailey's role as a team organizer for National Rail, emphasizing that all honest jobs deserve respect.
Priya's remarks came after a clip of Bailey calling her the "the biggest game player" on the show was shown. Bailey maintained that her comment was not personal.
In a statement, Bailey said, "I'm really surprised by the bitter and jealous comment because her reacting the way she did seemed quite bitter – I called out what everyone else was thinking."
Priya, whose potential earnings could be around £43,000 based on national averages, had questioned Bailey's presence on the show, suggesting she "go back to the National Rail." Her partner, Aidan Murphy, had attempted to reason with her about the comments. The controversy follows a week where Love Island faced over 533 complaints to Ofcom for various reasons, including allegations of "women-hating" and issues during specific show segments like "Movie Night" and the "Casa Amor" return.
