A tortoise has been reunited with its owner after an accidental journey to a recycling center. The tortoise, named Arnie, was discovered at a tip in Cornwall after climbing into a garden waste bag.
Arnie's owner, Jacqueline Sear, had been filling the waste bag on a Sunday and believed it had simply fallen over. However, Arnie had climbed into the bag and remained there all day Monday. On Tuesday morning, the bag was taken to the recycling center without Sear's knowledge.
Stuart Parker, senior site manager at the Suez facility, stated that reuniting Arnie with his owner was made simple by the center's booking system. The team contacted individuals who had booked a slot that morning via email, and Arnie was returned to his owner within four hours.
Suez has advised the public to be aware of wildlife, particularly hedgehogs, that may be hiding in garden waste when clearing their gardens.
