Lionel Richie has been released from the hospital after a three-day stay following an on-stage incident in St. Louis, Missouri. The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a medical facility on Saturday after appearing to struggle during his final song, "All Night Long," at The Muny in Forest Park.
Sources reported that Richie was tested for cardiac-related issues during his hospitalization. He is now back home in Los Angeles and reportedly "doing well."
Video from the concert showed Richie appearing to be out of breath and having difficulty standing. He was provided with a piano bench early in the song and remained seated for its duration. At times, he gestured for his guitarist and bassist to take over vocals, and at one point, he shook his head when they did not immediately respond. After the song concluded, he walked off stage with his back to the audience before turning to wave goodnight.
Richie had checked himself into the hospital out of an abundance of caution, with some reports suggesting doctors were exploring the possibility of dehydration. He was treated in the intensive care unit.
This incident follows a similar health scare in June, when Richie was forced to cut short a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. During that performance, he reportedly told the crowd he was feeling dizzy and sat down multiple times on stage. His band eventually announced that the rest of the show was canceled due to him feeling unwell.
Following the St. Paul concert, sources close to Richie expressed concern to media outlets, suggesting that his loved ones feared he prioritized entertaining audiences over his own health. They noted his strong work ethic and dedication to performing, which have defined his decades-long career. Despite these concerns, Richie reportedly felt more upset about fans not receiving the full show than about his own health, viewing the hospitalization as a temporary setback.
Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire, who were co-headlining a tour, are scheduled to reunite for a three-date mini-tour beginning September 26 in San Francisco.
