Authorities stated that Oscar nominee Linda Blair allegedly disregarded two dozen calls and attempts to contact her over three years leading up to a raid on her Acton, California property, where 251 dogs were discovered. The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning informed TMZ that these communications were made to "ensure animal welfare and check code violations" at her WorldHeart Foundation no-kill shelter.
Blair, 67, who founded her non-profit in 2003, initially characterized the raid as being related to "some paperwork that has to be dealt with" and asserted that "the animals are fine." She questioned on Instagram why mail was not used for notification, stating, "Just saying."
However, the LA County Department of Regional Planning indicated that 24 attempts were made to reach Blair over three years. Last Friday, approximately 70 personnel from law enforcement and other agencies, including the LACDRP and the LA County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC), executed an investigative warrant at Blair's 2.5-acre property.
A representative from the DACC previously told the Daily Mail that Blair's permits to house up to 60 rescue animals had expired in 2023. Despite neighbor complaints of dogs sounding like they were in distress, no animals were seized during the raid, and all dogs reportedly showed no signs of illness or injury.
The investigation is ongoing, and Blair has been described as "extremely cooperative." Blair herself describes her role at the WorldHeart Foundation as the "main rescuer, hands-on healer, behaviorist, trainer and matchmaker for adopters." The foundation's website states it provides "top-quality, lifelong care to the animals it rescues," emphasizing proper nutrition, veterinary care, training, and socialization.
Former WorldHeart Foundation staffer Ken Thomas told TMZ that Blair "could be in over her head" even when the shelter housed 150 dogs, but acknowledged her dedication to each animal.
Blair, known for her 1973 role as Regan MacNeil in "The Exorcist," has been attempting to relocate her shelter since 2024. She has been recovering from a severe illness that included sepsis and pneumonia, and was diagnosed with Graves' disease. MAGE5 MAGE3 MAGE2 MAGE6 MAGE7 MAGE9 MAGE4 MAGE8
