Liberia has agreed to accept up to 1,200 deportees from the United States, according to Liberian authorities. This arrangement is one of the largest of its kind under the Trump administration's policies designed to deter illegal migration.
Liberia's Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah stated that the deportees are expected to arrive within a year, with the initial group of 20 scheduled to arrive on Thursday. The deportees will include individuals from Africa, as well as from North America, South America, and the Caribbean.
The U.S. administration has established similar agreements with several African countries. These deals, often kept secret, are part of a broader U.S. effort to control illegal immigration. Advocates report that the administration has deported thousands of people to countries where they are not citizens.
