LeBron James' decision regarding his free agency is not imminent, according to his agent Rich Paul. Paul, speaking on the podcast "Game Over" with co-host Max Kellerman, emphasized that James is taking his time to make a business choice and will not be rushed.
It has been three weeks since James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that they should proceed without him for the upcoming season, marking his first foray into free agency in eight years. The delay in his decision has drawn scrutiny, with many observers questioning the prolonged process.
Paul drew a parallel to high-level executive decisions, asking who would rush a seasoned professional with an exceptional resume. He also addressed comments from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who indicated that the league's schedule completion hinges on James' decision. Paul confirmed he spoke with Silver, reiterating that the choice remains James' and that he will not be hurried.
Contrary to speculation, Paul asserted that James is not seeking to create a spectacle, recalling the 2010 announcement known as "The Decision." He dismissed the notion that James enjoys the attention surrounding the process. James himself has added to the speculation, most recently with a "Trust the process" comment at Fanatics Fest, which he later clarified was a long-standing personal phrase. A social media post from former player Patrick Beverley suggesting an imminent decision was also dismissed by James.
Paul stated he does not know when James will make his choice, suggesting it could happen at any moment, but stressed that the timing is entirely up to James. The teams reportedly considered favorites to sign James include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat.
